DescriptionA small boy wearing a dress, shoes, and socks stands beside a large upholstered hassock with claw feet. A wide fringed sash is tied around his waist. His left hand rests on the hassock, near the plume of a hat. A ball is in the right foreground; a bouquet of flowers in a vase is in the right background. Drapery is at the left.
NotesObject Note: A separate piece of paper, removed from the back of the original frame, is inscribed in black ink, "1854 / Presented to / Albert Schmeltzer / by / his teacher." This suggests that the print was originally given as a reward of merit to a school child. (Finlay 9/19/2008)
