DescriptionThe photographs collected in this photo album are of Amy Tatro as a young girl through the age of approximately ten, Alexander Tatro and Meta Heinze Tatro, other unknown individuals, and images from Hartford, CT. Amy can be seen in some photographs holding a doll, a violin, a flower, and sheet music. In other photographs Amy is standing next to a miniature Christmas tree, is wearing an American Indian costume complete with feathered headdress, is kneeling on a chair, and is posing outside. In some of the photographs there are individuals in a canoe, a woman holding a cat, unknown women posing with a dog, two unknown men with horses and cows, an unknown man wearing a uniform, and unknown women posing with a baby in carriage. Some of the photographs show 64 Vernon Street in Hartford, CT, which was the residence of the Tatro family, the Capital Building, the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch, a cemetery and headstone with HEINZE inscribed on it, and a train on the railroad tracks.

Most of the photos are of Amy Tatro and her parents, Alexander and Meta. Alexander Tatro was born in Canada in 1868 and immigrated to the United States in 1870. Meta Heinze was born in Sweden in 1871and moved to the United States in 1880. She came with her sister and they worked as maids for wealthy families around Hartford such as the Ponds. The Pond House in Elizabeth Park is named after them. She married Alexander in 1900 and her daughter Amy was born in 1906. (1910 Federal Census, Hartford Courant: Sept. 12, 2004)

Subject Note: Amy Tatro (1906-2004) was a pioneering woman artist, who graduated from Yale in the 1930s and designed jewelry for G.
