DescriptionViews show an ivy-covered mansion with grassy lawns and extensive formal gardens. Flowers grow in flower beds, in large containers, and around a circular or oval pool. Some photographs show a vine-covered pergola and details of brickwork. Stone sculptures of lions are visible in one picture. Trees grow in the background of some pictures.
NotesSubject Note: The mansion was purchased by Edward S. Harkness (1874-1940) and his wife Mary in 1907. The gardens were designed by noted landscape designer Beatrix Jones Farrand between 1918 and 1929. The property has been part of the Connecticut State Park system since 1952 and is known as Harkness Memorial State Park.
