DescriptionSet of seven ammunition loading tools in the original two-piece box. The tools include a loader, a cap extractor, a re-capper, a shell extractor, a powder measure, and a shot measure.
Tool .a, the shot measure, is made of a white metal cylinder with a shaped wooden handle. The flat end of the cylindrical portion of the tool is stamped, "BRIDGEPORT/ G. I. CO/ NO 20". One side of the cylinder is stamped with gradations for measurements. Above the gradations, the cylinder is stamped, "SHOT 02". One end of the cylinder is hollow; the solid end pulls out to expand the cylinder to hold more shot.
Tool .b-.c is in two parts: a wooden cylinder broadening to a knob at one end (.b); and a hollow metal cylinder that fits over the wooden piece. One end of the metal piece flares to accommodate the knob on the wooden piece. The wooden knob is stamped, "10".
Tool .d is thin and rectangular at the top, splitting into two prongs in the middle that attach to a hollow cylindrical base. The rectangular portion is stamped on one side, "10".
Tools .e and .f are both slender cylinders of metal, each tapering to one pointed end.
Tool .g is a thick, short cylinder of wood. On one side, the cylinder tapers inward; a hole is pieced through the center, going all the way through the cylinder. The opposite side of the cylinder has a shallow, flat indentation.
Box (.h-.i): The two piece box is made of cardboard; it consists of a lid (.h) and a bottom (.i). The exterior of both pieces of the box is covered in lime green paper; the paper continues about half an inch onto the interior of each piece to create finished edges. The lid has a half-circular at the center bottom edge of each of the long sides, to facilitate removing the lid. A second piece of green paper covers one short side and the top of the lid of the box. The portion on the top of the lid is printed in black ink, "A1. One Set 10 Ga./ FAVORITE/ BRASS SHELL IMPLEMENT SET,/ MANUFACTURED FOR/ JOHN P. LOVELL'S SONS,/ COMPRISING/ Loader, Cap Extractor, Re-capper, Shell Extractor, Powder and Shot Measure." The portion of the second sheet that covers the short side is printed in black ink, "A1. 10 Ga./ FAVORITE/ -OR-/ Brass Shell/ IMPLEMENT SET."
