NotesHistorical Note: Brown Thomson & Co. sold dry goods, fabrics and millinery at 398, 400 & 402 (street numbers changed in 1898) Main Street, in Hartford, Connecticut. For many years the department store occupied the lower stories of the Richardsonian Romanesque commercial building designed by Henry Hobson Richardson in 1876 for the Cheney family of Manchester known as the Cheney Block.
