DescriptionDrawing of Hartford insurance company representatives paying out claims after the Chicago fire of 1871. A man wearing a top hat sits by a barrel that he is using as a desk. He is handing what appears to be a check to another man wearing a hat and carrying two books. More people wait in the immediate background. To the left, a man with a beard and mustache and hat is meant to be Marshall Jewell. The background shows a huge crowd of people, and city buildings on fire with flames shooting up into the sky. A blank square with adhesive residue is at the top of the drawing.
