DescriptionPieced quilt in a Delectable Mountain pattern. The quilt consists of a pieced top of plain-woven cotton, batting, and a white, plain-woven cotton backing; the three layers are joined with a hand-stitched quilting pattern of triangles, clamshell and small flowers. The pieced pattern consists of a square in the center surrounded by triangles that give the square a sawtooth border; this is then surrounded by concentric squares created by large triangles, each with a sawtooth border created by small triangles. The square and each large triangle is a plain-woven cotton printed with a dense yellow, brown, black and blue floral and paisley pattern. The small squares are printed red with small black and yellow geometric designs. Between each triangular block are plain-woven white cotton pieces. Each edge of the quilt top has a red sawtooth border. The quilt is edged with twill-woven white cotton tape.
Condition: The quilt top has scattered medium-sized areas of light brown stains. The backing has scattered light yellow stains.
NotesObject Note: Pattern; the name of this quilt pattern comes from John Bunyan's book, Pilgrim's Progress. Bunyan wrote "They went then till they came to the Delectable Mountains... behold the gardens and orchards, the vineyards and fountains of water..."Condition: The quilt top has scattered medium-sized areas of light brown stains.
