DescriptionUnion Army Civil War veteran's commemorative ribbon made of a metal and ivory enamel bar pin suspending a blue silk ribbon with metallic fringe and a white metal and ivory enamel medallion. The bar pin is outlined in gold. It has an image of two forearms in white sleeves and a grey coat; the hands are clasped in a handshake. Below the arms are the printed words, "WHITEHEAD & HOAG CO. NEWARK, N.J." A small American flag is suspended from the bottom of the bar pin; the medallion is suspended from the lower edge of the flag. The medallion has an image of an eagle with outstretched wings holding an American flag in its talons; the flag suspends a five-pointed star with a seal inside it that reads, "GRAND ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC VETERAN". Printed on the medallion to the left of this image are the words, "GRAND ARMY"; printed to the right are the words, "OF THE REPUBLIC." Printed below the image is, "WHITEHEAD & HOAG CO. NEWARK, N.J." The top edge of the blue silk ribbon is decorated with two silver and blue triangles, over a wavy line, over two silver stars, over a second wavy line, over a second pair of silver and blue triangles. Printed in silver lettering on the bottom half of the ribbon is, "HARRY MCDONOUGH/ POST,/ NO. 63, G. A. R./ WESTPORT, CONN." A line of gold thread and metallic braid is stitched to the bottom of the ribbon; metallic fringe hangs from the braid.
