DescriptionSmall gold chain purse with pierced gold frame that divides the bag into two equal compartments fastened with a twist knob clasp. The finials on the clasp are made of metal cast in the shape of small pinecones or seedpods enveloped in leaves, possibly oak leaves and acorns. The metal frame is engraved with a floral swag. A small gold loop soldered to the inside of the frame may have been to hold a gold pin which could have been used to pin the bag to a dress or it may have been used to attach the bag to a chatelaine belt. The metal frame is engraved with a floral decoration including flowers with five petals, possibly a sort of anemone or dogwood blossom, or roses or peonies.
The inside of the bag has an engraved inscription that reads: "Mrs. Moses Fox Hartford Conn."
