DescriptionUniform dress of cotton, with a printed design of thin white stripes on a tan background. The dress's short sleeves are set into the armhole, with a cuff of white cotton; the cuff is wider at the outside of the arm than at the inside. The collar is also white cotton. The dress has a 20-inch opening at center front with five white mother-of-pearl studs (removeable for easy laundering) and one flat four-hole button at the waistline (for comfort). The waist seam is at the natural level. There is a small patch pocket at the proper left breast, and a larger patch pocket on the proper right side of the skirt. The front of the bodice is constructed of four panels; the seaming is flat-felled. The bodice front is gathered into the shoulder seam, which is dropped to the front. The back of the bodice has four shallow pleats along the waistline. The back of the skirt has two 6 3/8-inch darts. The hem is 3 inches, and is machine-stitched.
NotesHistorical Notes: This uniform was worn by a maid at Phyllis Fenn Cunningham's home in Hartford, Connecticut.
