Historical Note: The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International is a professional honorary society of women educators established in 1929. Membership is by invitation and is extended to those women whose distinguished contributions and achievements in the field of education and to their communities are identified as outstanding. The butter spreader belonged to Beatrice Fox Auerbach, who may have been honored by the sorority as a leader in education. In 1939 she had established the Auerbach major in retailing and related fields at Connecticut College for Women in New London and she provided scholarship money through the Beatrice Fox Auerbach Foundation established in 1941 as well as endowing a professorship of economics at Trinity College in 1956; in addition, she also provided major funding for the school of business at the University of Hartford.
