DescriptionThree women, allegorical figures representing the virtues Love, Faith, and Hope, are seated together in a landscape setting. Love, on the left, is a girl or young woman wearing flowing robes, a brooch, and a wreath of flowers in her hair. She holds two doves in her lap. Faith, in the center, is a mature woman wearing a dark dress and a brocade cloak trimmed with braid. She holds a cross and a chalice. Hope, on the right, wears a gown, cloak, belt, sandals, and a wreath of leaves. An anchor is at her feet. Flowers, including roses, are in the left background. Trees, including palm trees, are in the center. Rocks and a harbor scene including a lighthouse and a sailing ship are in the right background.
NotesDate Note: E.B. & E.C. Kellogg were only located at 87 Fulton Street, New York in 1855 and 1856. It is unusual for the firm to show no Hartford address. (Finlay 3/30/2007)
