DescriptionThis salmon-colored two-piece dress is constructed from plain-woven wool fabric. It is decorated with black braid trim (soutache) at the neckline, sleeves, and waistline of the bodice and also at the hem of the skirt. On the bodice (.a) both the sleeves and waistline are tabbed in three-inch sections. The wide neckline is approximately 10 1/4 inches wide. The bodice is opened at the center back with five 5/8-inch black wool-covered buttons with a jet inset carved with a flower design. The entire bodice is lined in a white plain-woven cotton. The skirt (.b) is unlined. It has seven inverted 2 1/2-inch pleats spaced evenly around the waistband. The one-inch waistband is made from white cotton plain-woven fabric. It has a 3/8-inch white china button closure for the ten-inch placket. The soutache on the skirt is approximately 2 1/2 inches wide and begins 2 1/2 inches up from the hem.
NotesHistorical Notes: According to family history, this dress was worn by Jennie Tuckerman (b. 1863) when she was about three years old. The cloth of the dress was given to her by her grandmother and the soutache by her mother.Status
