DescriptionTall maple and ash stool. The stool has a rectangular top with rounded short ends, over a rectangular block. Attached to each corner of the underside of the block is a straight leg that slants outward from top to bottom. Each long side of the stool has a footrest nailed to the outside edge of each leg. All four sides of the stool have a stretcher connecting the lower portion of the legs. The stool has a dark brown painted finish, with gold or yellow lines along the block, legs, and footrests.
Condition: The block and footrests have been reinforced with screws. The block may have been replaced. The stool is repainted; the paint is well worn.
Design and Construction Details: The top is formed from a single board with rounded edges. The block has chamfered lower edges and is screwed to the underside of the top. The legs are tenoned into the block; each of these joints is reinforced with a nail through the side of the block. The footrests have chamfered front edges and are screwed to the outside edge of each leg. The stretchers are tenoned into the lower portion of the legs. The legs and stretchers were formed with a draw knife.
