DescriptionDrawstring work bag with hand-stitched designs in crewel, or two-ply worsted wool, on a plain-woven linen ground. The crewel is in many colors, including light medium and dark blue, red, light and medium pink, green, blue-green, and yellow. The crewel designs consist of polychrome leaves and flowers on meandering vines. The designs were drawn in black ink on the linen prior to embroidering. The work bag is constructed of two pieces of previously embroidered linen that are stitched together at each side to form a cylinder, then stitched at the bottom to form the bottom of the bag.

Stitches: The principal stitch on the work bag is outline; it also includes satin, encroaching satin, long and short, herringbone, and darning.

Condition: The wool is worn in a few scattered, small areas. The ground is yellowed and lightly stained.
